In honor of our semi-fictional grandmothers Bubbe and Bestemor, we take the best of local Maine ingredients and the culinary traditions of Ashkenazic Jewish and Nordic baking to bring you the cozy echoes of the old world right here in the new.
Drawing inspiration from the traditions of our ancestors, we are not afraid to experiment with new flavors, ingredients, or styles. We love rye and honey, cardamom and caraway, maple, warmth, and family.
We mix, knead, and shape all of our breads by hand because we believe a constant physical connection to our creations keeps us in tune with the spirits of our ancestors, and we believe this human connection is passed on to you, bringing you into the family, even if just for a minute.
We bake our breads every week, with some recurring favorites and some rotating specials. Order online, and pick up on Fridays. No guarantees that your favorite will be available any given week, so check below for weekly offerings. If you're really having a craving, let us know with as much advance notice as possible and we can probably make it happen.
Currently, we accept orders through 10 am on Wednesdays for Friday pick-ups.
